Page 18: | "Nature provides what appear as three fundamental ways—called forces—by which pieces of matter can interact and stick together." |
I believe this is an example of simplification rather than error. Wolfson omits mention of the strong and weak forces, calling them just nuclear force to avoid confusing the lay reader with unnecessary information. |
Page 45: | Figure 3.6 |
This figure is useless, in my opinion, since it is purely qualitative and the same qualities were already described in the text. |
Page 97: | Figure 5.1 — Curve of Binding Energy |
The dot for 4 2 He is off the curve. |
Page 115: | "...weigh a nuclear bomb before it goes off, and then collect and weigh the debris after it explodes." |
Don't try this at home, kids! <G> |
Page 298: | "underway" |
S/B "under way". |
Page 332: | Map of projected fallout areas in the event of a massive nuclear attack on the U.S. |
The map shows no fallout on the San Francisco Bay area. In addition to a large "countervalue" target — millions of civilians with several world-class universities and many important industrial facilities — the area contains high-value military targets. |
Page 370: | "underway" |
S/B "under way". |
Page 434: | "1985 Treaty of Rarotonga" |
I questioned this spelling, thinking it meant the island of "Raratonga". Wrong; Treaty of Rarotonga is correct. |
