Errata

Page 38: "If the temperature is near freezing, just a single degree of warming or cooling will determine whether that frozen water remains on land, or melts and finds its way to the ocean, raising sea level."
Word order: S/B "that water remains frozen on land".
Page 62: "While the melting Arctic ice cap represents a profound and disruptive change, it has almost no direct effect on sea level rise because, a mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, the Arctic ice cap floats on water , not on land."
Highlighted comma and words are not needed and should be deleted.
Page 62: "When the bright snow and ice melts and is replaced by very dark water, it becomes a heat-absorbing surface, reflecting only about six percent of the sun's energy."
Number errors: S/B "melt and are". Also, "Sun's".
Page 73: "For decades to come that will include more snow in some areas, and in others lots of rain; in others, drought."
Missing word: S/B "in still others, drought.
Page 73: "Remember, it is important to look at five to 10 year trends rather than yearly weather data."
Format: S/B "5- to 10-year" or (more likely) "five- to ten-year".
Page 83: "You may remember from school that objects attract in proportion to their mass; the greater the density, the greater the pull."
Strictly speaking, this is incorrect: S/B "the greater the mass, the greater the pull". Density and mass are not equivalent.
Page 98: "Fortunately, new laser-based LIDAR (Light Image Detection and Range) mapping, done from airplanes, is gradually replacing the old maps..."
Wrong word: S/B "Ranging" based on the analogy with RADAR.
Page 114: "Though fascinating and inventive, we cannot rely on this technology to protect a significant portion of the world's coral reefs."
Dangling participle: S/B "this technology cannot be relied on". (However, I'd be happy to acknowledge that John Englander and his group are fascinating and innovative.)
Page 117: Chapter title: "Miami, Maldives and Much More"
Differs from title of Chapter 12 in table of contents: "Miami, Manila and Much More".
Page 126: "The Dutch simply cannot avoid the dangers of its low-lying landscape."
  Number error: S/B "their".
Page 133: "Built two centuries ago, one of the goals was to stop the flooding of low-lying areas at high tide levels."
Missing words: S/B "one of the Hornsby Vellard's goals.
Page 135: "To their credit the city and provincial governments are looking at climate change adaptation strategies such as enhancements to the four decade-old dike system."
  Missing hyphen: S/B "four-decade-old".
Page 147: "Using a crude estimate of two million dollars an acre, that translates to something like 50 billion dollars worth of the land, not counting the cost to replace the structures and infrastructure."
Extra word: S/B "worth of land".
Page 171: "My notes reflect four of his insights strike me as relevant to this issue:"
Missing word: S/B "four of his insights that strike me".
Page 185: "In May 2011, the Pontifical Academy of Science produced an easily read, 17-page, outstanding report (download at johnenglander.net/vatican)."
Link rot: That link takes me to a page with just the report's title. Below is another link, which gives me a 404.
The report is widely available on the Web, however. Here is the Vatican's own link.
